Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-01-06
This Privacy Policy explains how GeoCrossing collects and uses information when you use the mobile app and related services.
Information We Collect
- Location (foreground only): used to show nearby XINGs and to verify a visit when you mark a XING as found.
- Device identifiers: a locally generated device ID used to track claims and sync your results.
- Device info: model and platform version used when pairing a device.
- Camera access: used only to scan QR codes for pairing.
- Motion and sensor data: optional samples (accelerometer, gyroscope, compass) attached to a record when you mark a XING as found.
- Gameplay data: XINGs found, timestamps, and points.
How We Use Information
- Show nearby XINGs and compute distances.
- Verify and record XING discoveries.
- Sync your results to the web map when you pair a device.
- Maintain game integrity (one claim per device).
Sharing
We do not sell your data. We share data only to provide the service. Map tiles are loaded from OpenStreetMap servers, which may receive your IP address and basic device information.
Storage and Retention
We store gameplay data on our servers so your results can be synced and displayed. The app stores your last known location locally to speed up startup. You can request deletion of server-side data via the contact method below.
Your Choices
- You can deny location or camera permissions in system settings.
- You can avoid pairing if you do not want to sync to the web.
Children
The app is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us.
